Sinzinger wins regional award

(Published February 25, 2002)

Kathryn M. Sinzinger, editor and publisher of The Common Denominator, has won a regional award for editorial writing from the Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Press Association in the organizationís annual competition.

Sinzinger, 46, won second place for an editorial entitled "Mr. Mayor, Walk the Talk," which was published last Nov. 19. The winning entry may be read online.

The 2001 contest entries were judged by members of the Indiana Press Association, and newspapers were grouped by circulation category. The Common Denominator competed among non-daily newspapers with circulation between 10,001 and 20,000.

Awards will be presented March 1 at a luncheon during the regional press associationís annual editorial conference, which is being held this year at the Capital Hilton in downtown Washington. Best-of-show and best-of-class awards also will be announced at that time.

Other Washington-area newspapers honored with 2001 awards were the Washington Post, Washington Times, Washington Business Journal, Catholic Standard and Legal Times.

The MDDC Press Association is a nonprofit organization whose membership includes all the daily newspapers and most of the non-daily papers published in Maryland, Delaware and the District.
