Firefighter/EMT applications due March 25

Applications are available now for persons who want to take the next entry-level examination to join the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department as cross-trained firefighters/emergency medical technicians. Officials will accept completed applications submitted in-person on March 25 only.
Applicants to become a firefighter/EMT must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 19 and 31, possess a valid driver's license, have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and must pass a background check, a written exam, a physical abilities test, and psychological and medical examinations. Applicants also must submit to urinalysis and test negative for the presence of illegal drugs before being eligible to attend the training academy. The written exam will be given to prospective recruits on May 20.
The minimum annual salary for entry-level firefighters/EMTs currently is $42,596.
Applications may be picked up at all D.C. fire stations and at the D.C. Office of Personnel in the Reeves Center at 2000 14th St. NW, or can be downloaded from the D.C. government's Web site by visiting www.fems.dc.gov and clicking on "2006 Firefighter/EMT Entry Level Exam."
Only one application per person may be submitted, and they will not be accepted if faxed, e-mailed or submitted online. Applicants who qualify to take the written exam will be notified by mail by the city's personnel office and will be sent study materials.
Up to 223 completed applications will be accepted at each of the following locations, beginning at 10 a.m. March 25:

-Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 1100 Michigan Ave. NE
-Hillcrest Recreation Center, 3100 Denver Ave. SE
-D.C. Fire/EMS Training Academy, 4600 Shepherd Parkway SW
-Kennedy Recreation Center, 1401 Seventh St. NW
-Emery Recreation Center, 5701 Georgia Ave. NW
-Sherwood Recreation Center, 640 10th St. NE
-Bald Eagle Recreation Center, 100 Joliet St. SW.
