Treatment facility gets new warden

(Published December 6, 1999)

Corrections Corp. of America recently replaced the warden of the D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility that it runs on contract for the D.C. government.

Former CTF Warden Mary Buell was transferred Nov. 26 to CCAs private prison facility outside Boise, Idaho.

The change comes amid allegations of unrest among corrections staff at the CTF.

Buell has been replaced by Carolyn Cross, a native of Southeast Washington who was one of the first female correctional supervisors to be assigned to the D.C. Corrections Youth Facilities.

Cross worked for the D.C. Department of Corrections as a prison guard and assistant warden for 15 years before she began working for CCA.

CCA, the nations largest operator of private prisons, also owns and operates a prison in Youngstown, Ohio, that houses D.C. inmates.
