Anacostia, Francis pools to open for Memorial Day
(Published May 19, 2003)
If the weather cooperates, D.C. residents will be able to take an early dip in city pools during Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26.
City-operated outdoor pools at Anacostia Park and Francis Recreation Center are scheduled to be open from noon to 7 p.m. for the three-day holiday weekend, city officials have announced.
The Anacostia pool is located at 1800 Anacostia Drive SE, and the Francis pool is located at 2500 N St. NW.
After the holiday, the two pools will continue to open on weekends until the daily summer schedule for outdoor pools becomes effective on June 23.
"We are committed to offer a safe swimming environment for District residents," Neil O. Albert, director of the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, said in a written statement announcing the holiday pool openings.
The city operates 40 pools in the District, including indoor year-round pools, large outdoor pools and smaller "walk-to-learn" outdoor pools for children 12 and younger.
More information about pool locations, operating hours and rules is available online at the Department of Parks and Recreation Web site at www.dpr.dc.gov or by calling the Aquatics Information Desk at (202) 282-0720.
