Norton kicks off re-election bid

(Published January 17, 2000)

D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton announced her re-election bid Jan. 8 at a rally held in her honor at Howard University.

The event featured the Duke Ellington High School Gospel Ensemble and an appearance from Nortonís former aide and press secretary, Donna Brazile, who was there stumping for Vice President Al Gore. Brazile was named campaign manager for Goreís presidential campaign last year.

The popular incumbent, first elected in 1990, is seeking her sixth term as the Districtís non-voting representative in Congress. Norton is know for her staunch and often fiery defenses of the Districtís rights on the House floor.
